Promotion, Persistence, and Consequences of HIV Testing: Evidence from a Randomized Controlled Trial in Ethiopia
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using data from a randomized controlled trial involving door-to-door HIV education, homebased voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT), and facility-based VCT, the latter of which relies on conditional cash transfers, we find that both home-based VCT and facility-based VCT significantly increase HIV testing take-up, with the former being more effective in detecting HIV-positive cases. We also find that previous HIV testing does not dampen demand for future HIV testing. Subjects who tested HIV-positive (HIV-negative) tend to revise their prior beliefs about HIV infection upwards (downwards) in the short term, but this effect tends to dissipate quickly. Promotion and Persistence of HIV Testing and HIV/AIDS Knowledge: Evidence From a Randomized Controlled Trial in Ethiopia.
We use data from a randomized controlled trial in Ethiopia and examine the causal effects of HIV/AIDS education, home-based voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT), and conditional cash transfers (CCT) for facility-based VCT on HIV/AIDS knowledge and demand for HIV testing. HIV/AIDS education significantly increases HIV/AIDS knowledge but has a limited effect on testing take-up. However, whe...
